Zoom: Elevating or inviting a call to a Zoom meeting

Elevating or inviting a call to a Zoom meeting

If you make a call using Zoom Phone, you can easily convert or elevate the phone call to a Zoom meeting. The other user can be on an external phone service, Zoom desktop client, or Zoom mobile app.

Note: If you're in a Zoom meeting while in a Zoom Phone call, you can switch between or merge the phone call and meeting.

How to elevate a call to an instant meeting

  1. Sign in to the Zoom desktop client or mobile app.
  2. Make or receive a phone call using Zoom Phone.
  3. Click or tap Meet using the in-call controls.
    Note:

What a happens to the other participant when you elevate a call to an instant meeting

The following scenarios will happen depending on whether the other call participant is using Zoom Phone (desktop client, mobile app) or regular phone line.

  • Zoom Phone (desktop client or mobile app): The other call participant will join the meeting if they accept the invite. If the user declines, the phone call will end.
  • Zoom Phone (provisioned desk phone): The other call participant will automatically join the meeting using phone audio.
  • External phone service: The other call participant will automatically join the meeting using phone audio.
  • Three-way call: If you have a three-way call, the above points still apply.

Note: The Waiting Room is disabled by default for instant meetings and Zoom Phone calls elevated to a meeting. You can only enable Waiting Room for these meetings using the Security option in your in-meeting controls.

How to invite a call to a meeting by using the meeting URL

You can also invite a call to an existing scheduled or instant meeting by entering the meeting URL.

  1. Sign in to the Zoom desktop client or mobile app.
  2. Make or receive a phone call using Zoom Phone.
  3. Click or tap More using the in-call controls.
